Dramebaaz 2020: A Hindi Sketch Competition

In 2020, as the world faced the unprecedented challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, Vacoas Rang Bhoomi Kala Mandir took a bold initiative to keep the spirit of the performing arts alive. Amidst the uncertainty and restrictions of the time, we conceived and organised Dramebaaz, a Hindi sketch competition open to talented performers from across Mauritius.

This initiative was born out of a deep commitment to nurturing artistic expression, even in the face of adversity. Dramebaaz provided a much-needed platform for actors, directors, and storytellers to showcase their creativity, resilience, and passion for theatre at a time when live performance opportunities were scarce. Participants from various regions of the island came together, bringing to life original short plays that explored a wide range of themes, emotions, and stories, all performed in Hindi.

The competition stood as a testament to the enduring power of art to unite communities and uplift spirits during difficult times. It reaffirmed Vacoas Rang Bhoomi Kala Mandir's mission as a true "Temple of Arts," a space dedicated to preserving and promoting cultural and artistic heritage. Dramebaaz 2020 remains a cherished milestone in our journey, celebrating the courage and creativity of every performer who took part.
